Often blamed for problems in youth sports, parents are largely the solution
Some 60 million kids play organized youth sports in the U.S. There are middle school, high school and rec-league games every fall, winter and spring, and camps and clinics each summer. I’ve spent more than nine months of every year, for the last 14 years, on the sidelines of soccer, basketball, flag football and baseball games — as a volunteer coach, referee or as a parent. And I will tell you, these headline-dominating stories are the extreme exception, not the rule.
